I’ve been researching histamines for a book and for my own self care for years now. The video Carrie Bennett created is one of the most informative and brilliant I’ve heard. It explains a series of ideas for how we can lower our histamine loads naturally. She covers 8 areas including Circadian Rhythms and how they affect histamine production (get out in the sun 10-20 minutes in the first hour of your day), hydration major effects on histamine production, red light therapy and how it affects histamine levels. Have a look and listen here:

The video is long and fairly complex especially if you are not familiar with histamine function language. Here is an executive summary:
Histamine, mast-cell activation, and histamine intolerance are strongly influenced by circadian rhythm, environmental inputs, cellular hydration, mitochondrial function, and stress physiology. This presentation outlines eight powerful but often overlooked strategies to support healthy histamine regulation.
1️⃣ Morning Sunlight & Circadian Rhythm Alignment
Key Points
Histamine release and clearance follow a circadian rhythm.
DAO (diamine oxidase), the main histamine-degrading enzyme in the gut, also follows circadian cycles.
When circadian rhythm is disrupted, mast cells become reactive all day long.
Light entering the eyes communicates "time of day" to the brain, regulating immune activity.
Symptoms of Disruption
Constant histamine reactions
Increased allergic symptoms
Mast cells acting as if there is a threat all day
Recommended Solutions
Get 10–20 minutes of outdoor morning light within 1 hour of waking.
No sunglasses; look toward (not at) the sky.
If sensitive, eat higher-histamine meals midday when DAO activity is highest.
Avoid histamine triggers late in the day.
2️⃣ Earthing & Grounding
Key Points
Direct skin contact with the Earth provides free electrons that reduce inflammation.
Grounding balances brain waves, breath rhythm, HRV, and autonomic nervous system tone.
Reduces the “threat signal” that drives mast cell activation.
Supports calmer immune activity and reduces histamine release.
Recommended Solutions
Barefoot contact with grass, sand, soil, trees, or natural water 20–60 minutes daily.
Use grounding mats indoors (especially at desk or sleep).
Helps anxiety, arrhythmias, inflammation, sleep cycles.
3️⃣ Mitochondrial Hydration & Energy Function
Key Points
Mitochondria regulate immune behavior through biophoton signaling and energy production.
Dysfunctional mitochondria → excessive reactive oxygen species → immune system triggers histamine.
Chronic dehydration causes histamine to act as a drought-management molecule.
Dehydration raises histamine, worsening allergies, asthma, autoimmunity.
Recommended Solutions
Structured water + mineralized water (e.g., Quinton isotonic, solé).
Prioritize hydration first thing in the morning.
Support lymph flow with:
Foam rolling
Myofascial release
Infrared heat
Dry brushing
Gentle rebounding
4️⃣ Molecular Hydrogen
Key Points
Molecular hydrogen (H₂) reduces inflammation via electron donation.
Research shows hydrogen suppresses mast cell activation and reduces histamine release.
Helps prevent over-reactive immune responses.
Extremely high safety profile; cannot be overdosed.
Recommended Solutions
Hydrogen-infused water
Hydrogen tablets
Hydrogen gas inhalation (strongest option)
Especially helpful for inflammatory, allergic, neurological, and autoimmune patterns.
5️⃣ Non-Native EMFs (“Wireless Radiation”)
Key Points
Wireless radiation (WiFi, Bluetooth, cell phones, smart devices) is:
Dehydrating
Disruptive to mitochondrial function
Activating voltage-gated calcium channels (VGCCs)
When VGCCs stay open, mast cells continuously degranulate histamine.
Leads to chronic histamine symptoms and electro-hypersensitivity.
Recommended Solutions
Keep phone off the body; use airplane mode when possible.
Avoid wireless headphones (AirPods, Bluetooth).
Hard-wire workstation (Ethernet, wired headphones).
Turn off WiFi at night.
Unplug devices in the sleep environment.

6️⃣ Red Light Therapy
Key Points
Supports mitochondrial water production and energy cycling.
Reduces histamine-induced itching and mast cell degranulation.
Intranasal red light specifically reduces allergy symptoms (animal + human research).
Recommended Solutions
Full-body red light therapy for general histamine/mitochondrial support.
Intranasal red light for sinus/allergy symptoms.
Abdominal red-light applications for gut-related histamine issues.
7️⃣ Cold Adaptation
Key Points
Histamine acts as a thermoregulatory neurotransmitter during cold exposure.
Cold stimulates brown fat (brown adipose tissue) → activates mitochondria → produces heat efficiently without inflammation.
Proper cold exposure reduces overall histamine burden.
Caution
Overly cold temperatures can be a “threat” to a sensitive system.
Must start gently.
Recommended Solutions
Begin with very mild cold exposure:
50°F air for 30 minutes
Cool (not icy) water for 3–5 minutes
Slowly build tolerance; avoid sudden intense cold plunges.
8️⃣ UV-B Light Exposure (Solar Adaptation)
Key Points
Many sensitive individuals initially react to UV-B with histamine release.
With gradual, consistent exposure, the body shifts to:
Mast cell stabilization
Reduced histamine release
Lower skin sensitivity and inflammation
UV light becomes therapeutic instead of triggering.
Recommended Solutions
Start with 30 seconds of sun exposure.
Slowly increase daily by 15–30 seconds.
Aim for consistent, gentle UV-B exposure.
Supports circadian rhythm, vitamin D, immune balance, and mast cell regulation.
🌟 Overall Summary
Histamine regulation is deeply influenced by light, hydration, circadian rhythms, mitochondrial function, grounding, and environmental electromagnetic exposure.
The eight underrated strategies form a holistic, non-pharmaceutical framework for reducing histamine sensitivity and restoring mast cell balance:
Morning sunlight
Grounding
Cellular hydration
Molecular hydrogen

Red light therapy
Cold adaptation
Gradual UV-B exposure
Together, they help shift the body from a state of perceived threat → perceived safety, lowering histamine burden and improving immune balance. (My comment: It also decreases adrenal stress.)
