Thankful for a Lost Earring: A Thanksgiving Story

Thanksgiving this year was truly wonderful. We traveled a few hours, stayed with lovely new friends, shared a yummy dinner with more new friends who went out of their ways to make food that would fit my low histamine diet. The next day we visited my favorite consignment shop—the one that has a Black Friday 50% off sale. I even found some incredible bargains: high-quality clothes with their original tags for a fraction of the price. It definitely satisfied my hunter-gatherer impulses.

The checkout line, of course, was long. I knew it would take at least half an hour, even though the staff was moving quickly and staying remarkably pleasant. I chatted with the people in front of me and behind me, and then suddenly realized… I had lost an earring. Not just any earring—a very special one.

I confessed the loss to the young woman behind me. Without hesitation she said, “I’ll save your place in line. Go look for your earring.”

I searched the entire store and came back empty-handed. Then she said, “You watch my clothes, and I’ll go look for it.” Off she went. When she returned, the tilt of her head told me she hadn’t found it either. Then she did something extraordinary: she turned around, projected her voice, and announced to the entire store that an earring was missing.

And something magical happened.

Every shopper stopped.
Every head went down.
The entire store began searching for my earring.

I was so touched I could hardly speak.

Before I reached the register, the woman in front of me turned around, stood tall, and said with conviction, “You will find your earring!”
I felt a shift inside me immediately. Matching her energy, I said, “We are in agreement. We will find that earring.” She nodded feeling satisfied that her message was heard and that the power of our agreement had sunk in.

A little while later I turned to the three people behind me, and they all said—at the same time—“I know you’re gonna find that earring.” Their faith felt like a wave, and I stepped fully into belief rather than fear.

At the counter, I handed the cashier a note with a drawing of the earring and my phone number. He looked me in the eye and said, “I’m sure we’ll find your earring. I’ll call you as soon as we do.”

His confidence sealed it. I could feel the connected, unified energy saying, Yes. It will be found.

A few hours later, when we returned to our hosts’ home, I noticed a voicemail waiting. An excited voice said, “We found your earring! You can pick it up anytime you want.”

In that moment, I realized this wasn’t just about a lost earring.
This was a gift—an unexpected experience of unity consciousness in action, right in the middle of Black Friday chaos.

And now, I have even more to be grateful for. Thank you lady in front of me.  Thank you to the people behind me.  Thank you Alex for your enthusiasm and for everyone’s belief.
